Our History
Founded by Earl Johnson nearly four decades ago, Earl's Transmission Service is now owned and managed by Earl's protege, Mike Black. Earl, a third generation auto mechanic, began his career in Chicago working for the Granatelli brothers, Vince, Joe and Andy (of STP fame), first in their "speed shop" and then for their Grancor Racing Team. Tiring of the life of a nomad, Earl retired from the rigors of transcontinental travel and became the district manager for a national chain of transmission service shops, supervising all shops east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon line. After several years Earl recognized that he could provide a higher standard of service by focusing his knowledge and skills on a single repair facility, and narrowing the scope of service to the one area he knew best, the drive train. Earl's Transmission Service was born. Since that time, Earl's Transmission Service has established a reputation with customers throughout the mid-West for exceptional service and expertise in transmission maintenance, repair and rebuilding. Earl still drops in to lend a hand from time to time, and we still are in one single location, specializing in the one area we know best, the drive train. |
